There are no proposals for event changes for the 2015 Ancient Mariner Regatta.

We will vote on who the Sportsmanship Trophy will be in honor/memory of this year and we will be going over more specific changes to the regatta as a result of the new location.

Announcement from the Chairman PDF Print E-mail

To my fellow Sea Scouts,

I know that there have been a lot of rumors flying around about the future plans for the Ancient Mariner Regatta. Before making any announcements, I wanted to be confident that as your committee, we are making the best decisions for the Regatta, and that we are able to come to you with a successful plan for our event’s future. With that, I am excited to announce that for 2015 we are planning to move AMR to the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo. As many of you know, the changing political climate in Alameda has made it increasingly difficult to plan and execute our Regatta. The Hornet has been a fantastic host to our event for nine years, but there were a number of other companies and agencies that we have to work with in order to have access to all the facilities that we require. In keeping our event in Alameda we have had to make more and more concessions each year. A lack of vessel mooring space, as well as unreliable facilities for waterborne events are just two of the challenges that we faced. This year we were also expecting to lose access to the pool and possibly a majority of our event and social spaces on the ship. In order to improve the facilities and reliability of our event, we have been pursuing a partnership with the Maritime Academy. At CMA we are expecting to have good berthing facilities for both those arriving by land and by water. We will have good food and great event facilities. I know that everyone is going to have a lot of questions regarding the move. I will be available at the upcoming general meeting to answer any questions that I can. We will publish the meeting minutes on the website so that anyone that is not able to attend will be able to see what was discussed. Whether you are able to attend the meeting or not, please feel free to email me with any questions that come up. I will do my best to answer them, although please understand that we are still working to finalize some of the details. You should also expect to hear from us at least twice more as we approach the Regatta. Once most of the details are hammered out, I will be putting out an informational packet that will describe how, where and when to arrive, and the biggest differences that you can expect to encounter. I can assure you that there will be some significant changes; hopefully most of them will be for the better. Please bear with us as we make this change. I appreciate everyone’s help in making this a smooth and productive transition.

Yours in Sea Scouting,

Max Rosenberg
